Thursday evening, Garner (9-1) did what Garner does this as they downed Christ School (9-6), 92-67 to move to the David West Bracket Championship game where they'll meet Greenfield School. Greenfield School beat Broughton earlier in the afternoon, 59-57.

Garner was led to victory by five guys scoring in double figures. Seniors Trayvon Ferrell (scored 27) and Demetric Horton (scored 24) shot the ball tremendously well once again. The two combined to shoot 18/31 (58%) from the field and 9/20 (45%) from beyond the arc. When your two best shooters shoot that well, no doubt the blue and yellow will be walking off the floor with a W. Kenyon "K.D." Burt would not be denied in the post. The senior scored 11 points including a corner triple from the 6'6" forward. Point guard Marque Maultsby showed off his speed for the second straight day as he dished out four assists and really put the wings, Ferrell and Horton in good positions to hit their nine threes. Maultsby finished with 13 points. Jaren Ellerbe also added 12 points off the bench. Ellerbe could have had 14 but he lost the handle on, or missed a reverse slam and he would get a mouthful from the fiery Eddie Gray to follow his mishap. Would you try a reverse lay up again after hearing about a missed one from the legendary coach? I don't know about you but I would not so Jaren, if you're reading this, save the reverse dunks for the driveway.

Jalen Lecque was in attack mode once again for the Greenies. The quick junior guard exploded for 26 to lead Christ School. Lecque shot 9/16 from the field and 8/12 from the foul line. Brandon Stone finished with his second straight double-double as he had 16 points and 11 rebounds. A point highlighted in their post game press conference by their coach, Jeff Depalteau, was that they shot 4/17 (23%) from three to Garner's 12/27 (44%). That will not win you many basketball games, especially against the Garner Trojans. Also, the Trojans press really helped them put the game away as the Greenies turned the ball over 21 times as oppose to Garner's nine.

Christ School will play their third and final Holiday Invitational game tomorrow at 5:15 as they'll meet the tournament host, Broughton. Broughton is now 11-1 and will have the home crowd behind them. Who is taking third place in the David West Bracket? We'll find out tomorrow evening here at Broughton High.

DAVID WEST BRACKET CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW:
Garner and Greenfield met on Dec. 2 at the Millbrook Showcase where Garner won that meeting 94-76. Garner could not stop one man, and his name is Coby White. White has gone for 46 and 32 in two games here at the Holiday but scored 46 once more back on the second. Trayvon Ferrell exploded in that one as well as the senior dropped 32 in these two teams first meeting. Coby White is just 37 points away from breaking the all time tournament record in points which is held by Garner's Donald Williams from 1990, which is 115. This one is coming up on Saturday night at 7:00 for some hardware in what could be Eddie Gray's final Holiday Invitational game as head coach before he hangs up his vest and retires.
